Habitat 1150* (Coastal lagoon) recovery by SEagrass RESTOration. A new strategic approach to meet HD & WFD objectives
Il progetto LIFE SeResto (LIFE12 NAT/IT/000331) si propone di innescare un processo di ricolonizzazione delle praterie di fanerogame acquatiche nel SIC IT3250031 “Laguna Superiore di Venezia”, soprattutto tramite il trapianto di Zostera marina e Zostera noltei in siti di piccole dimensioni diffusi in tutta l’area. La tecnica di intervento proposta prevede l’utilizzo di un numero ridotto di zolle, con vantaggi in termini di costi, di impatto sui siti donatori e di applicazione su larga scala. A sostegno della naturale espansione delle praterie nelle aree circostanti, sono previsti interventi diretti, per l’intera durata del progetto, volti a favorire l’attecchimento dei semi e a diffondere i nuovi rizomi prodotti dalle zolle trapiantate.
Obiettivi del progetto sono:
1. ripristinare e consolidare gli habitat acquatici 1150* attraverso il trapianto di fanerogame sommerse;
2. contribuire al raggiungimento del buono stato ecologico dei corpi idrici di transizione, dimostrando l’efficacia delle azioni proposte nel perseguire gli obiettivi fissati dalla Direttiva Quadro sulle Acque (Dir. 2000/60/CE art.4);
3. quantificare e valorizzare i servizi ecosistemici forniti dall’ambiente lagunare e in particolare dalle praterie di fanerogame acquatiche negli habitat 1150*.

The project LIFE SeResto (LIFE12 NAT/IT/000331) aims to trigger a process of aquatic angiosperm recolonization in SIC IT3250031 “Northern Lagoon of Venice”, mainly through the transplantation of Zostera marina and Zostera noltei to small sites distributed throughout the area. The proposed intervention technique involves transplanting a small number of plants, with advantages in terms of lower costs and impact on the donor sites. The technique is also suited to large-scale application. In support of the natural expansion of seagrass meadows in the surrounding areas, direct intervention is also planned for the entire duration of the project. The aim is to help the the seeds take root and to facilitate the growth of new rhizomes produced by the transplanted specimens.
Project objectives:
1. Consolidating and restoring aquatic habitat 1150* via the transplantation of submerged aquatic angiosperms;
2. Contributing to the achievement of good ecological status in transitional water bodies, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed measures in terms of meeting the objectives set by the Water Framework Directive (Dir. 2000/60/EC Article 4);
3. Quantifying and making good use of the ecosystem services provided by the lagoon environment and the aquatic angiosperms of habitat 1150* in particular.
